DACE Price Booklet

Responsive app that provides independent cost estimate data for the process industry in Europe

The Challenge

DACE Price Booklet, a product by the Dutch Association of Cost Engineers, provides independent cost estimate data for the process industry. Available as a web app or physical booklet, it helps users estimate project costs, validate budgets, and manage financial risks effectively.

A trusted resource for decades, the DACE Price Booklet recently underwent a much-needed redesign to modernize its appearance and maintain its reputation as a reliable resource for long-term users.

The Client's Objectives

To improve the experience for existing users, and expand its reach to international audiences beyond the Netherlands and Belgium, DACE Price Booklet approached me with the following requests:

• Create a modern, sleek design that minimizes disruption for existing users.
• Resolve usability pain points identified by current users.
• Implement a multi-language feature to support international accessibility.
• Redesign the landing page to better communicate the tool’s value and attract new customers.

Balancing modernization

with familiarity

The client requested a UI redesign to give the product a more modern, professional look while ensuring minimal cognitive friction among their existing users. Given the product’s long history and loyal user base, maintaining familiarity while updating the design was essential.

With this in mind, I created a new visual style that preserved the core elements and functionality of the DACE Price Booklet. The web app was built using Tailwind CSS components, which streamlined development and allowed for faster, more efficient styling updates.

Putting Users First

Research-Driven Improvements

To gain a deeper understanding of how existing users interact with the tool, as well as to uncover pain points and gather actionable insights, I conducted user research. This phase involved leveraging tools such as surveys, along with behavioral data from Google Analytics and Hotjar.

The research yielded several valuable insights, which were analyzed and prioritized in collaboration with the client. Key user complaints that were addressed in this project were:

• A need for graphical cost representations
• Improved search functionality
• More intuitive navigation
• Lack of responsive design for on-the-go use

Ensuring Consistency

LAnding Page Redesign

With the DACE Price Booklet now featuring a modernized interface, it was essential to redesign the landing page to align it with the updated visual identity and resonate with potential users.

I began by conducting a heuristic evaluation of the existing page to identify usability issues and areas for improvement. Using these insights, I designed a new landing page that highlights the product's benefits and showcases how it simplifies workflows for engineers. The updated page effectively communicates the tool’s value while aligning with its refreshed visual identity.
